Iphone 11 Pro Max vs Iphone 12 Pro Max-Which is the Best

Hi everyone Faraz here for another Article and the iphone 11 pro max and the iphone 12 pro max are   both basically flagships or the largest available size from each year of phone and so i want to help   you decide if you should update from the iphone 11 pro max to the 12 pro max or maybe upgrade   to the 11 pro max now the first thing you need to know is that apple no longer sells the 11 pro max

new from apple.com or the apple store they will sell it to participating retailers or   authorized retailers but it's not available from apple anymore other than being refurbished   it comes in at $999, $1149, or $1349 usually with a carrier contract so it really depends on where   you get it the iphone 12 pro max

comes in three different variants as well $1099 to $1199 or $1399   and each of them are available in different storage options with the 11 pro max you have 64   256 or 512 gigabyte storage options with the 12 pro max you get an additional 64 gigabytes at   the low end 128 gigabytes 256 or 512 so you get a little bit of an extra bonus if you get the   lower end iphone 12 pro max this year now when it comes to the colors the 11 pro max comes in a   few different colors now it does have space gray as you can see here and we had a new color last   year midnight green we also have gold and silver with the 12 promax the green has been replaced   with this new pacific blue and then we also have a silver then we have gold and we also have what   they call graphite which is basically the exact same thing as space gray on the 11 promax so you   can see here they're basically the exact same thing now as far as their build and overall   design well both are made of stainless steel of course this year the edges are a little bit   different and there's some changes with the 12 pro max but overall the build is the same   stainless steel on the outside edges glass front and back so let's go around the phones and then   talk about the materials and everything else now on the right hand side of the phone we have our   power sleep wake button like we always have and on the 11 pro max we have a sim card tray on the   12 pro max we have a millimeter wave antenna for 5g in the united states so in the united states   you'll have this little cutout around the world you won't necessarily have that on the top there's   nothing really there it's not very exciting and then on the left hand side you've got your silent   switch with your volume buttons and your sim card tray on the 12 pro max so on the bottom you have   lightning just like you do on all the other phones and then you have asymmetric speaker and   microphone holes so the microphone you've got four holes the speaker you have six different   holes on either one of them so it's a little bit different on either and as you can see the 12 pro   max is squared off we've gone back to the design that we had basically with the iphone 5 and 5s   and kind of a combination between that and the four because we have glass front and back   now this year with the 12 pro max you have ceramic shield which makes it four times less likely to   break in the event that you drop the phone you have this matte finish on the back which is really   nice around the camera bump you can see it's more of a glossy or just regular glass and then on the   front you have ceramic shield now this particular glass like i said is less likely to break   but i'm not sure that it's less likely to scratch with the 11 promax after a year of use there are   a ton of scratches on it so far i've had yet to scratch the phone the 12 pro max the 11 pro max   scratched much easier in my experience so it seems like it should be a little bit more durable but   still if you're worried about that of course use a screen protector now the overall weight   is a little bit different the 11 promax is 7.97 ounces or 226 grams where the 12 pro max is 8.03   ounces or 228 grams so it is a little bit heavier and that's because of the cameras and a few other   things so we'll talk about those in a moment now before we talk about the displays you can see the   phone is a little bit bigger with the 12 pro max so not only is it a little bit heavier but it's   a little bit taller width it's about the same so it is a little bit taller and it feels much larger   because of the squared off edges now as far as the displays well the display is larger too because   of the larger squared off frame so with the iphone 11 pro max you have a 6.5 inch 2688 by 1242 with   458 pixels per inch display with the 12 promax you get a 0.2 inch size increase of 6.7 inches   with 2778 by 1284 pixel resolution with 458 pixels per inch so they're both fantastic displays they   both support true tone wide color p3 they have the same 800 nits of brightness in regular use   they also both go up to 1200 nits of brightness when playing hdr content so they're very similar   that way they both have wide color p3 as well and have great viewing angles you're not going to have   any issues viewing them outdoors or in sunlight or anything like that and they look great overall   so in general they're basically the same some have said that the screen on the 12 pro max is a little   bit warmer but in tess it's shown that it's more color accurate so the 12 pro max seems to be a   better display in many people's tests that have tested it professionally now both phones being   super retina xdr displays means they're oled so they have pwm that means that's how it's   controlling the brightness using flickering of the display that's just how oled displays work or most   oleds i should say on phones and as you bring it brighter it's flickering the screen faster bring   it down it's it's flickering slower you can't see this with your eyes but it does bother some people   so both phones have the same thing neither of them bother me and in fact the 12 pro max seems   to bother me less for some reason the 11 pro max if i was tired it would bother me a little bit   causing me to get headaches but with the 12 pro max i don't notice that at all so   that might be a little bit of a help to those that it bothers you it's about 1 in 10 or so   now the iphone 12 pro max and the 11 pro max can both play 4k hdr video like i said   so if we go into youtube we'll take a look at my iphone 12 pro review one month later   and we're in hdr so if we go to select the video resolution let me switch to either one here   you'll see that on both phones we have the option for 4k or 2160p hdr so you have that option if   you have one of these newer phones so either one you'll have a higher bitrate and you'll be   able to watch this video so you'll see it might look blown out to you on the display right now   but i can see super bright brights in the background and really deep blacks around the   whole screen so if you don't have an hdr display it's hard to understand what it looks like but   you'll still have 4k video as well so let's switch over to a different video the iphone 12 one month   later so you can hear the speakers so we'll switch to this so i'll press play on the eleven prompts   i used it for an entire week and also my daughter's been using it full-time and so   i wanted to share her battery life with you as well since i've been using the 12 pro max as well   and now let's try the same thing on the 12 pro max at least alongside the iphone 12 pro and i've been   using it on and off i used it for an entire week and also my daughter's been using it full time and   so i wanted to share her battery life with you as well since now when comparing both of them   they sound very similar the 12 pro max does seem a little bit clearer at the highest of volumes   but basically they're very close but again you can hear that and hopefully you could hear the   difference between both of them they're both plenty loud they both have great stereo sound   as well now as far as overall speed well they're a little bit different as far as their cpu and ram   with the iphone 11 pro max you have the a13 bionic with four gigabytes of ram   and it had what apple called the next gen neural engine with the iphone 12 pro max you have the a14   bionic with six gigabytes of ram and the third generation neural engine so it should be a little   bit faster doing specific types of apps now if you're just opening certain apps you're going   to find the experience to be basically the same i already had music open on the 12 pro max so   it took a moment to load if i close those out go back in you'll see that they're going to load it   basically the same rate if i go into something like weather the same sort of thing is true   and then again if i go into say settings and just want to scroll you're going to have the   same experience on either one when you go into the cameras it's going to be fast for either one   and snapping a photo there's no slowdowns here whatsoever now when you're doing intensive tasks   maybe editing a photo if we go into edit on either one of them and maybe auto adjust it takes about   the same amount of time so you're really not going to see huge benefits there but when you're doing   intensive tasks such as exporting 4k video you may see a difference so let's go ahead and try that   so i'll go into imovie now in imovie i have the same video imported it's the exact same   video in every way i just imported it on each one it's 3 minutes and 46 seconds and i added a title   to a couple parts of it so that it would have to re render and re-export everything and so you can   see it's the same video and what i'll do is i'll bring in an iphone 12 pro as a stopwatch here   slide them over and i'll export them and we'll see how long it takes we'll hit done on both and then we'll hit export or share   and then we'll save video we'll try and do this at the same time start and let's see what happens   and they should be fairly close the extra ram may help a little bit but let's see what they can do and as you can see the differences were very minor in exporting video so a few seconds or a   couple seconds difference between each so both are super fast and even with the added ram you're not   really going to see a huge benefit with exporting video unless the file is over 10 minutes long now   after exporting a video the phone will usually heat up a little bit it did get a little bit   warm right around the cpu which is near here and then on the back of the 12 pro it's actually not   as warm so depending what you're doing they will heat up a little bit but that's normal   and it seems to be handling it just fine exporting video like that now with the iphone 12 pro max you   have 5g this year so you get qualcomm modems with 5g millimeter wave and sub 6. now where i live we   don't really have millimeter wave depending on the carrier you have that's mostly verizon and doesn't   pertain to most of the world so i don't really count it too much until it's readily available   but sub 6 is available in just using the iphone 12 pro max since using the 11 pro max which both are   my main phones depending on the year the 11 pro max i did occasionally have issues because it had   an intel modem in it and with 5g g i do notice a double the speed difference when downloading   things from the internet so a speed test will show very different speeds depending on where you're   located and what your signal strength is but i was getting double the speed with the 12 pro max   versus the 11 pro max on 5g versus 4g i also noticed that i haven't dropped a single call on   the 12 pro max so i'm seeing better connectivity overall that's my personal experience and it will   vary depending on where you live and what carrier you have now as far as the cameras are concerned   both are really great cameras the forward-facing cameras on both of these are identical   they're both 12 megapixel f 2.2 apertures and they both have face id so face id is   going to be the same on either turn it on swipe up and they're going to unlock quickly so again   with that face id camera it's just going to unlock quickly you're not going to see a difference   between either but the forward-facing cameras are pretty much identical in every way so you're   not compromising there other than the lack of hdr video on the 11 pro max so we'll talk more about   that in a moment with the rear cameras there's a bigger difference though you can see right away   that the camera module is much larger on the 12 pro max and that's because on the 12 pro max they   have a much larger sensor and some changes to the lenses so for example with the 11 pro max you have   triple 12 megapixel cameras you have an ultra wide f 2.4 a wide f 1.8 and a telephoto f 2.0   and you can record up to 4k 60. with the 12 pro max you again have triple 12 megapixel cameras but   you have a wide f 1.6 this time and then an ultra wide f 2.4 and a telephoto f 2.2 with a 5x optical   zoom and up to a little bit more zoom range 12x versus 10x you have 4k 60 but you can also record   in dolby vision hdr and so as far as everything else in the camera you have better low light as   far as the 12 pro max is concerned and you can take night photos on any of your cameras this   time and you also have night portrait as well with the 12 pro max and we'll test that in a moment   now you also have apple pro raw coming later in this year or it may already be here depending   on if you have it already and that's an option in your settings so if we go into settings we'll go   down to camera for example and then we'll go into camera on both and i'll show you the difference so   camera on the 11 pro max if we go into our video you can see that we have hdr video on   one on the 12 pro max and regular 4k 60 on the 11 pro max so there's slight differences there   also again pro raw so if we go into the camera under formats you have apple pro raw as an option   for the 12 pro max that's only for the 12 pro and the 12 pro max where you can take raw photos   and get more data in detail and then modify it a little bit later also with the zoom you can see   the little bit of a difference here the 12 pro says 2.5 where the 11 pro max says two so the   12 pro max is 2.5 versus two so let's go ahead and take a look at what these are capable of   with the video from the forward-facing camera rear-facing camera some photos and night as well so this is the forward-facing camera of the iphone 11 pro max and the iphone 12 pro   max both forward-facing cameras are very similar but the iphone 11 pro max cannot   do hdr where the 12 pro max can also you can hear the difference in the microphones on both   so here's the iphone 11 pro max that i'm recording from and here's the iphone 12   pro max so let me know which one sounds best to you and looks best in the comments below now when it comes to the battery life apple says they both support up to 20 hours of video playback   that has nothing to do with being connected to the internet or to lte or 5g that's just if you had   the video downloaded onto them despite the iphone 12 pro having a little bit smaller battery so the   11 pro max has a 3969 milliamp hour battery and again that will last 20 hours of video playback   the iphone 12 pro max has a 3687 milliamp hour battery now those are both pretty good as far   as their overall size but because of the newer chipset in the 12 pro max you're getting about   the same battery life with my day-to-day use i'm seeing about the same with the 11 pro max   i could get a l 10 to 12 hours of screen on time with the 12 pro max i'm seeing about the   same at the end of the day i have 50 left and you can see some of my battery usage here and   it's going to vary greatly and honestly i think i'm getting more battery life than this is saying   because it's easily getting me through a day and a half to two days with regular use so   i'm seeing similar battery life so much so that i don't really have to pay attention to it because   they're both great now both fast charge up to 50 in 30 minutes if you're using a wired connection   and say a 20 watt charger like this that's not included in either box now so you'll need that   and then also you have magsafe on the 12 pro max so this helps it fast charge wirelessly it centers   itself and allows up to 15 watts fast charging now this also allows for certain accessories   with magsafe in them as well such as cases you can see the little magnet ring here and   so it helps adhere to the back and then there's other accessories for magsafe such as car mounts   and more so you'll see more of that in the future where you have a magnetic adhesion to the back of   the phone it locks it in gives it a little bit of a special animation and that's for the future and   i think that's for a wireless future of iphones a little bit later maybe with ios or iphone 13 or so   now as far as anything else well the iphone 12 pro max and the 11 pro max have slightly   different ip ratings or water resistance so the 11 pro max has an ip68 rating of up to   four meters for 30 minutes so that's pretty good but the 12 pro max goes a little bit further ip68   6 meters up to 30 minutes so they've increased the depth that it can handle it seems to be a little   bit better water sealed now both are fantastic phones but which one should you buy well that   really depends on which phone you already have now if you have an iphone 11 pro max i'd probably hang   on to this for an additional year because with the 11 pro max you're basically getting the same sort   of phone but with the curved edges now i really like the new form factor of the squared off design   i think it feels a little bit more premium it makes it a little bit easier to grip but it is a   fingerprint magnet and of course if you use a case that helps with that but in general i think it   feels a little bit nicer i've been waiting for a squared off phone for a while but i know not   everyone likes that and many people prefer the rounded edges and the rounded edges of the screen   it's very different feeling in your hands so if you have the chance to try one out i would try   one before switching but if you have an 11 pro max i'd probably wait until next year's phone   before i upgrade it however if you're coming from an older phone a 10s 10s max anything   older than that i think you'll really like the 12 promax and that's what i'd look for in the future   it's going to have one year extra support based on what we've seen in the past with ios updates   and so each one is good for about five years of updates in general but i would really go for the   newer phone if you're on an old phone if you are already on an 11 pro max well then i would stick   with that but let me know what you're choosing in the comments below which color are you picking   up or if you're sticking with your older phone i'd love to hear from you in the comments below
